ferraus dc-remove

Remove DC offset

Synopsis

ferraus dc-remove <input> [options] [-o <output>]

What it does

Removes DC offset with a gentle high-pass (default 5 Hz, inaudible), which also follows a drifting offset. --freq 0Hz subtracts each channel's mean instead (Audition's DC bias adjust).

This command is also an fx stage and a pipeline op: ferraus fx in.wav -o out.wav --fx "dc-remove:key=value".

Examples

Remove DC offset

ferraus dc-remove take.wav -o take_dc.wav

Subtract the static mean only

ferraus dc-remove old.wav --freq 0Hz -o old_dc.wav

Remove DC offset from a whole folder before editing

ferraus dc-remove takes/*.wav --outdir clean/

A lower corner for bass-heavy material so the deepest sub stays untouched

ferraus dc-remove sub.wav --freq 2Hz -o sub_dc.wav

Options

FlagTypeDefaultMeaning
--freqfrequency5HzHigh-pass corner; 0Hz subtracts the mean
--mixpercent100%Dry/wet balance: 0% returns the input unchanged, 100% is fully processed

Global options

Every command also accepts the global options (-o, --json, --dry-run, --overwrite, --progress, ...). See Global options.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting that outputs are never overwritten: pass --overwrite or a new -o path when re-running.
