ferraus silence pad

Add silence to the start and/or end

Synopsis

ferraus silence pad <input> [options] [-o <output>]

What it does

Inserts digital silence before and after the audio, e.g. to give a track lead-in time or meet a platform's spacing rules.

This command is also an fx stage and a pipeline op: ferraus fx in.wav -o out.wav --fx "silence pad:key=value".

Examples

One second of lead-in, two of tail

ferraus silence pad song.wav --start 1s --end 2s -o song_padded.wav

Add one bar of silence at 90 BPM for a reverb tail

ferraus silence pad loop.wav --end 4b --bpm 90 -o loop_tail.wav

Half a second of lead-in so players do not swallow the first word

ferraus silence pad episode.wav --start 500ms -o episode_lead.wav

Add two seconds of tail to every track of an album

ferraus silence pad tracks/*.wav --end 2s --outdir spaced/

Options

FlagTypeDefaultMeaning
--starttime0sSilence (duration) added before the audio, e.g. 1s or 2b
--endtime0sSilence (duration) added after the audio, e.g. 2s

Global options

Every command also accepts the global options (-o, --json, --dry-run, --overwrite, --progress, ...). See Global options.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting that outputs are never overwritten: pass --overwrite or a new -o path when re-running.
  • Beat-based times (4b, 1/4) need a tempo: pass --bpm or write 4b@120.
