ferraus denoise profile

Learn a noise profile (.noiseprof) from a noise-only region

Synopsis

ferraus denoise profile <input> [options] [-o <output>]

What it does

Measures the noise fingerprint (per-frequency mean and spread of the level) from a region that contains only noise, and saves it as a small JSON file that 'ferraus denoise --profile' applies. Choose the region with --range (default 0s..2s), let ferraus find the quietest spectrally stable second with --auto, or learn from a separate noise-only recording with --from.

Examples

Learn the room tone from the first two seconds

ferraus denoise profile take.wav --range 0s..2s -o room.noiseprof

Let ferraus find the quietest second and report where it was

ferraus denoise profile take.wav --auto -o room.noiseprof --json

Learn from a separate room-tone recording

ferraus denoise profile --from roomtone.wav -o room.noiseprof

Options

FlagTypeDefaultMeaning
--rangerange0s..2sNoise-only region of the input, e.g. 0s..2s or 1:02..1:04
--autoflag—Find the quietest spectrally stable 1 s window and learn from it (the window is reported)
--frompath—Learn from this whole noise-only recording instead of a region of the input

Global options

Every command also accepts the global options (-o, --json, --dry-run, --overwrite, --progress, ...). See Global options.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting that outputs are never overwritten: pass --overwrite or a new -o path when re-running.
  • Beat-based times (4b, 1/4) need a tempo: pass --bpm or write 4b@120.
