ferraus midi velocity

Scale, compress, or set velocities

Synopsis

ferraus midi velocity <input> [options] [-o <output>]

What it does

Changes note velocities in this order: --set, --scale, --compress toward the mean, then --range remaps the current lowest..highest onto lo..hi. Results are clamped to 1-127.

Examples

Play 20% harder

ferraus midi velocity take.mid --scale 1.2 -o louder.mid

Even out dynamics into 60-110

ferraus midi velocity take.mid --compress 50% --range 60..110 -o even.mid

Every note at velocity 100, for a programmed feel

ferraus midi velocity drums.mid --set 100 -o flat.mid

Options

FlagTypeDefaultMeaning
--scalenumber1.0Multiply velocities (1.2 = 20% harder)
--compresspercent0%Pull velocities toward their average (100% = all equal) Range: 0..100%.
--setinteger—Set every velocity to this value first Range: 1..127.
--rangetext—Remap velocities onto lo..hi, e.g. 40..110
--trackslist—1-based track numbers to change, comma separated (default: every track)

Global options

Every command also accepts the global options (-o, --json, --dry-run, --overwrite, --progress, ...). See Global options.

0Success
1Processing failed
2Usage or parameter error
3Input missing or unreadable
8Cancelled
70Internal error (bug)

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting that outputs are never overwritten: pass --overwrite or a new -o path when re-running.
  • Percentages accept 80% or the fraction 0.8; a bare 80 means 80x, not 80%.

  • MCP tool: ferraus_midi_velocity
  • Schema: ferraus schema midi velocity
  • Pipeline: { op: midi velocity, args: { ... } } (flag names with _ instead of -)
