ferraus info

Probe a file: container, codec, duration, rate, channels, bit depth, bitrate, tags, art

Synopsis

ferraus info <input> [options] [-o <output>]

What it does

Reads the container header (and, for video files, lists every stream) without decoding the audio. Add --loudness for an EBU R128 measurement (integrated loudness, loudness range, true peak) or --spectrum for 1/3-octave band averages; both decode the file in a streaming pass.

Examples

Container, codec, duration, sample rate, channels, bit depth, bitrate, tags

ferraus info song.flac

Integrated loudness, LRA, and true peak as JSON

ferraus info mix.wav --loudness --json

Audio track of a video file plus a 1/3-octave spectrum

ferraus info interview.mp4 --spectrum

Options

FlagTypeDefaultMeaning
--loudnessflag—Measure EBU R128 integrated loudness (LUFS), loudness range (LU), and true peak (dBTP) [default: off]
--spectrumflag—Average level per 1/3-octave band, 25 Hz to 20 kHz, in dB relative to a full-scale sine [default: off]

Global options

Every command also accepts the global options (-o, --json, --dry-run, --overwrite, --progress, ...). See Global options.

Exit codes

CodeMeaning
0Success
1Processing failed
2Usage or parameter error
3Input missing or unreadable
4Unsupported format or codec
8Cancelled
70Internal error (bug)

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting that outputs are never overwritten: pass --overwrite or a new -o path when re-running.
