ferraus generate noise

Generate white, pink, or brown noise

Synopsis

ferraus generate noise [options]

What it does

Writes Gaussian noise: white (flat), pink (-3 dB per octave, Kellet filter), or brown (-6 dB per octave, leaky integrator), scaled to an exact RMS level. Each channel gets independent noise. --seed makes it reproducible. Without -o the file is noise.wav in the current directory.

Examples

Five seconds of pink noise at -18 dBFS RMS

ferraus generate noise --color pink -o pink.wav

Reproducible stereo brown noise

ferraus generate noise --color brown --dur 30s --channels 2 --seed 7 -o rumble.wav

A minute of quiet white noise, for example to test a noise gate or dehiss

ferraus generate noise --dur 60s --amplitude -30dB -o hiss.wav

Stereo pink noise at -20 dBFS RMS, the usual speaker-calibration signal

ferraus generate noise --color pink --dur 10s --amplitude -20dB --sample-rate 44100 --channels 2 -o calib.wav

Common mistakes

  • Beat-based times (4b, 1/4) need a tempo: pass --bpm or write 4b@120.
  • Gains need a unit when not in dB: 0.5x is a factor, -6 and -6dB are decibels.

For models

  • MCP tool: ferraus_generate_noise
  • Schema: ferraus schema generate noise
  • Pipeline: { op: generate noise, args: { ... } } (flag names with _ instead of -)
