ferraus tilt

Tilt EQ: one-knob brighter or darker

Synopsis

ferraus tilt <input> [options] [-o <output>]

What it does

Raises one side of the spectrum and lowers the other around the pivot: positive --gain is brighter (highs up by gain/2, lows down by gain/2), negative is darker.

This command is also an fx stage and a pipeline op: ferraus fx in.wav -o out.wav --fx "tilt:key=value".

Examples

Brighten a dull mix

ferraus tilt mix.wav --gain +3dB -o brighter.wav

Warm up a pad

ferraus tilt pad.wav --gain -4dB --pivot 600Hz -o warmer.wav

A touch of air on a vocal while leaving its body alone

ferraus tilt vox.wav --gain +2dB --pivot 2kHz -o vox_air.wav

Very subtle darkening of a harsh master

ferraus tilt master.wav --gain -1dB --mix 50% -o master_soft.wav

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting that outputs are never overwritten: pass --overwrite or a new -o path when re-running.
  • Gains need a unit when not in dB: 0.5x is a factor, -6 and -6dB are decibels.
